This is a rough idea to start a Community Orphanage/Home here in New York State:
- Pooling together the resources of adults who have a love and vision to "adopt"/raise hard-to-adopt children together.
- "It takes a village to raise a child" adage is adapted here to become: "It takes a community to raise a group of children."
- Instead of each family adopting one or two children and having to pool the physical and emotional energy of their extended "families" to raise these kids, we'd pool the families together to have more resources (financial, physical, emotinonal, spiritual) to raise not just one or two, right now I'm thinking of - 40 children.
Congratulations on starting your blog, Elissa. May God refine, clarify, articulate and grow the vision He's begun to form in you!
ReplyDeleteThis is an incredible dream! May God bless, nurture and raise up like-minded co-laborers :0) Thank you for sharing what God has planted in your heart.
ReplyDeleteI love the dream Elissa. Looking forward to becoming a part of the NYS Home.

I love this idea of yours. I can see you doing this; being a loving and firm orphanage momma to 40 lucky kids. I am wondering how does one form an orphanage, and how would one find and choose the kids?
ReplyDeleteI am very excited about this vision God has put in your heart! I have worked with foster care kids, some in homes and some in community residences. All of them touched my heart. I saw many challenges the parents and staff faced with them. These children need a safe holding environment to flourish; a place that fosters health attachments with loving adults. I pray your vision will come to be. I am very excited that it will incorporate a spiritual component as well. Very much needed idea. Please tell us more about where you see it happening, how do you invision it working.
ReplyDeleteElissa, this is an amazing vision! I also think this community home for children who desperately need the love of our Lord is very much needed. Just trust Him to work out the details.
ReplyDeleteThis is so exciting, Elissa! Would you want to "adopt" children into the community on an ongoing basis so that there are always around 40 kids there at any given time? Or would you start with one "generation" of kids and raise them to a certain age and then welcome in a new "generation"?
ReplyDeleteElissa, this is a great and mighty expression of the love of God for His community and those who lack within that community. May He bring this to pass through your prayer and obedience. In Christ Alone, Joyce Swingle
ReplyDeleteThis is an exciting vision to have! It reminded me of Louisa May Alcott's book "Little Men". Will be praying for God to open doors and raise up others with the same vision and that we may see God's incredible work!
ReplyDeleteElissa, what a wonderful dream that truly reflects the heart of God. I was touched reading it and also believe in the power of loving those who are "hard-to-reach" What a testimony this would be! I'll pray for your vision that is quite possible with God!
ReplyDeleteBtw, are you serious about the chickens? : )
